ACCOUNTANT’S LAPSE.
Christ clinch, Last Night. C. 'W. Hervev, secretary of the Ctiy Council, pleaded guilty to two charges of making a false return of income in respect to his income for the year ending March 1920, and also to misleading or attemptiijg lo mislead the Commissioner of Taxes in respect to his income for that year. The magistrate said Hervey’s position as a public accountant, made the offence more serious, hut the mere publcation of the charges meant, a heavy penalty and might affect llervey’s position as a member of the Accountants’ Society. He inflicted fines of £lO and £SO, with costs and expenses. Charges in respect to 1921 were withdrawn.
