MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday when there were present: Sir J. G. Wilson (in the chair), Crs. Hunt, Boyce, Barber, Fagan, McKelvie and Penny. GENERAL. The following alteration were made in the rate roll: —J. W. Dewis to .J. B. Westlake, Puketotara; D. Kernshaw to F. C. Sexton, Carnarvon; Lilian Adams to J. A. McGregor, Sandon; W. J. Honore to Rongotca Co-operative Dairy Factory Co., Rongotea; C. N. Baldwin to N. W. Cooper, Himatangi; P. E. Baldwin to N. W. Cooper, Himatangi; M. A. and E. K. Ransom to R. B. West, Rongotea; H. G. Stringer to J. J. Bain, Tangimoana. It was decided to observe the usual Christmas and New Year holidays and owing to their intervention the next meeting of the council was set down for Wednesday, January 10th, 1923. The chairman, Crs. Penny and Fagan were appointed a committee to pass wages accounts before Christmas. It was proposed by Cr. Boyce and seconded by Cr. Hunt that the Lauds Department be written to asking that the matter iff taking the land from Mr Easton for a roadman’s cottage on Milner’s road he expedited. —The motion was carried. Accounts amounting to £1,386 3s 2d were passed for payment. The tramway manager (Mr A. K. Drew) reported that the chief items of traffic last month were: General merchandise 61 tons, minerals and manure 3851 tons, cheese and butter 168;] tons, wool 236 bales, stock 22 trucks and tinker 13,000 superficial feet. Fares amounted to 8s Kid. The accounts showed a credit balance of £25 10- 4d for the month’s working. Owng to the exceptional heavy growth of grass along the tram line and the danger Irani lire later, he suggested that the range)’'.- duties lie -uspended on the roads along which the train runs during the hours of 6 a.in. to 6 p.m. for the next six weeks. The suggestion, however, did not find favour with the council. The engineer (Mr G. Hicktord) reported that the usual repair.have been effected in the shape of trimming in ruts and holes on Kari Kari, Wilson’s, Bowc’s and Shannon roads in the Awahou riding. Tramway. —Only one truck of sleepers came to hand last month and the men were employed packing the length already laid and weeding a portion of the old track. They also gathered up old rails and sleepers which-have already been passed by the Stale Forest Ranger.
