SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

'Flie monthly meeting of the local State school committee was held last, night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman). Coley, Cowley, Pearson. Perreau, Jno. Ross, and Roore (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Stevenson and Whibley. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:—From the Education Board notifying that a subsidy had been granted by the Department on the flagpole. —Messrs Coley, Pearson and Ross to expend same on completing the structure. From same taking exception to p’ortion of the inspectors' report being published; —Received and deferred. From same confirming the appointment of Miss Fahey. The question of providing school prizes was discussed and the chairman said several had promised donation:- for this purpose. Mr Perreau said that the infants should be provided with a Christmas tree as in years past. —Decided that the chairman and Mr* Coley wait upon the headmaster and staff and arrange details. The headmaster reported that the attendance for the period ending November 30th was: roll number, 435, average attendance 405.9. The school had been visited by the health officer and agricultural inspector. The proficiency examinations were held on November 21st. The school holidays commence on 20th December. The grating for the stairway had arrived and was ready to be fixed. The report was adopted and Mes■rs Pearson and Ross (visitors foi the month) were authorised to erectgrating. • Miss 11. Maekie, wrote tendering her resignation as 7th assistant as she had accepted a position under the Hawke’s Bay Board.—The chairman paid a tribute to the excellent services rendered by Mss Maekie and expressed regret at her departure. It was resolved to write Miss Maekie to this effect.
