MEETING AT MANGAHAO
11 r It. I. Kiyger, the Liberal La-bour-candidate, for Manawatu. addressed a meeting of those engaged in the Hydro-electrie works at Maiigahao on Sunday. There was a large attendance over which Mr M. Troy presided. The candidate dealt in a comprehensive manner with the various items of his platform. He emphasised the fact that his sympathy was with the workers as he recognised that it was the workers that were tlie sinews of this fair country of ours and it only required the cooperat’ »n of the electors to support those who >tood for sane labour and true Liberal ideals. He also expressed the opinion that the Soldier Settlement Act should be amended so as to allow for all back rent to be capitalised and rate of interest on soldiers homes sill aid lie reduced by extending the ter.a of payment from 20 to 3(1 years. Mr Flyger. who spoke for ail boar and a-half, explained his views on banking, shipping, education and many other items. In connection with education he emphasised llic fact that he would advocate free books for the children. His remarks throughout were punctuated with applause and at its conclusion a vote of thanks, proposed by Mr Jones and seconded bv Mr Olsen,, was carried by acclamation.
After lbe meeting Mr Flyger met several of ttie electors personally, all of whom staled they had read his pamphlet and had been looking forward to bearing bis address and complimented him on what they characterised as a sound, sensible and bussines-slike political speech.
