Mr J. Linklater, Reform candidate for Mann wain, is advertised to speak at Carnarvon to-night, Awuhuri, Wednesday and Thursday at Levin.

Speaking at Runnythorpe on Friday night Mr J. Linklater addressed a lai'ge audience. Mr W. Duthie occupied the chair and said what pleasure it gave him to introduce the candidate who was standing in the Reform interests for the Manawntu seat. It was quite unnecessary to refer to his past career which had been such a standing example of keen interest in the welfare of the dsitrict. A number of questions were asked llie candidate, particularly with reference to proportional representation. State Bank, etc. In reply the candidate-stated that he was in favour'of a tribunal being set up to adjust between mortgagee and mortgagor in eases of great hardship where farmers had bought laud at peak prices and could not earrv on. At the conclusion a vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Linklater. moved by Mr Eglington, seconded by Mr Heusen, was carried after an amendment for thanks only moved by Mr Thompson, was defeated.

Mr Linklater, Reform candidate for Manawatu, spoke to a fair audience at Rangiotu on Saturday night. ‘despite the very inclement weather. The candidate was accorded, an excellent hearing and at the conclusion a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. Mr IT. Bond occupied the chair and spoke most highly of the candidate as the right man to represent (his constituency in Parliament. He also expressed regret at Mr Newman’s retirement and took the opportunity of publicly thanking him for what he had done for the district as the member.

Mr IT. T. Flyger. of Palmer-ton North, officially announces his candidature. in tin 1 Liberal interest, tor the Manawatu seat at the forthcoming general election. Mr Flyger’s name was mentioned as a candidate some weeks ago and as Mr Murdoch has withdrawn. Mr Flyger intends to prosecute the candidature on behalf and at the request of Hie old Liberals in the Manawatu. Elsewhere in this issue. Mr Flyger publishes his manifesto.
