OCTOBER GRADING RETURNS

The returns for hemp, tow ami stripper slips graded during the month of October are issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows. — Hemp.—The total number of bales graded was 5,141 as compared with 5,293 for the corresponding period of. last year, a decrease of 152 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st October, 1922, the number of bales graded was 93,784 as compared with 61,208 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 2.516 bales. Tow. —During the month 1,301 bales of tow were graded as compared with 1,086 for the same month last, year, an incretVe of 215 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st October, 1922, the number of bales graded was 16,304 as compared with 12,954 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 2,350 bales. Stripper Slips. —During the month there were 21 bales of stripper slips graded as compared with 107 bales for the corresponding month last year. For the twelve mouths ending 31st October, 1922, the number of bales graded was 133 as compraed with 1,881 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 1,748 bales. The following is the detailed particulars of the hemp grade:— Good High Low G.Ports Fair Fair Fair Com. Auckland 43 603 253 Foxton 456 1180 4b 24 Wellington- 372 1107 012 108 Bluff 200 84 Four bales at Foxton and 49 at Wellington were rejected. The following shows the number in each grade, the number for the corresponding period oi last \cat beim*' given in parenthesis: line nil (100), G. Fair 1071 (1356). IT. fair 2,974 (2; 868). L. fair till (761), common 132 (17), rejected 53 (191). a total of 5,141 hales, being a decrease of 152 hales. The number graded at each port was as follows:—Auckland 899, Foxton 1,710, Wellington 2,248, Bluff 284. The following is the detailed particulars of the tow graded : G. Ports Ist 2nd. 3rd. Auckland 77 101 4 Foxton 234 120 Wellington 450 227 4 Bluff Nine bales at Wellington were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Ist grade 761 (723), 2nd grade 521 (333), 3rd grade 10 (8), a total of 1,301 bales, being an increase of 215 bales. The number graded at each port was as follows, —Auckland 18;>, Foxton 356, Wellington 690, Bluff 70. Stripper Slips. 11 bales at Auckland were graded Ist grade and 10 at Auckland were graded 2nd grade.
