GENERAL ELECTION.

At Glen Oroua on Tuesday night, Mr J. Linklater addressed a large and attentive audience. He mainly concerned himself with charges against the present Government, particularly the one that the Reform Government, had reduced the wages of this country. This charge he refuted and quoted statistical figures to prove conclusively that such a statement was not a fact. How the Government had helped the farmer with its legislation, particularly in regard to the right to the freehold and to*the moratorium was also stressed. The housing scheme for workers and the Civil Service “cut” were also dealt with and, at the conclusion, a vote of thanks, moved by Mr Amon and seconded by Mr Massey, was carried. The latter speaker expressed regret for the retirement of Mr Newman, who had been such a splendid man for the district. He hoped that if Mr Linklater was successful he would be as good a member. Mr Boyce occupied the chair, and referred to the long education the candidate had had in council, harbour board and patriotic, matters. He said that he should make an excellent member.

Mr F. D. Wlhibley, Labour candidate, has addressed meetings in the northern part of the electorate during the week, torching on the Labour platform.
