J. Cable, ex-coxswain of the Aldeburgh (England) lifeboats, during his term of service, has been instrumental in saving about 400 people from drowning. Piccadilly, the famous London thoroughfare, is said to have received its name from ihe "piekardil,” a collar worn by men of fashion in the seventeenth century.
In 1022 expenditure for carrying on ordinary Government business in the United Slates will be about £550,000,000 less than last year. ,
All taxicab and bus drivers in the State of New York are now compelled by law to carry £SOO insurance in favour of any one they may injure or kill.
Miss Hammond, proprietress of a stationery shop in Richmond, Surrey, received a registered letter containing £2O in Treasury notes, and the words "Conscience money,” written on a slip of paper. No other 'explanation was given. About twelve years ago the cash box in the shop was rilled and £2O taken.
