THE MANAWATU SEAT.
MR \V. MURDOCH RETIRES. The Levin Chronicle is informed that DU W. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, Liberal-Labour candidate for Manawatu has decided not to persevere with his candidature and has cancelled his address which lie proposed giving at Levin to-night. This leaves two candidates in the field, viz., Messrs Linklater and Whihle.v, official Reform and Labour candidates respectively, to light out the contest, unless an eleventhhour candidate is put up by the Liberal Party, which is very doubt fill. A large number of Liberal supporters in this constituency have come to the conclusion that there is little or no difference between the policies of the two parties and this has accounted for the lack of , enthusiasm in the support of a Liberal candidate. In fact many o f’the old prominent Liberal supporters are now on the Reform committees in different parts of the constituency. It therefore appears that the electors of Manawatu will have a straight-out choice between Reform and Labour as happened at last election. Both candidates are addressing meetings in different parts of the electorate nightly and are receiving good hearings.
