THREE RUM SHIPS SEIZED OOF NEW YORK.
“Mysterious plotting, tb£ flare of rockets telling of a ship in trouble, Wiled officials —ajl these figures to-day in the campaign of prohibition enforcement against (lie everlmsy bootlegger. “Tlire wiis a woman —an alleged sea going bootlegger—who was linked up with two ships which have been seized; there was a plot to substitute thousands of gallons of water for good liquor in storage here: and there was the seizure of three ships heavily laden with liquor —and all it is assumed, coming from one mysterious cargo vessel which is wallowing at anchor, perhaps fifteen miles off New York harbour. It was estimated 400,000 dollars *0 liquor was seized on the three ships.”
The above appeared in the Philadelphia Public Ledger of July 28th, 1022', and shows the enormous proportions the bootlegging evil has as-,-umed in the U.S.A. Not, only men, hut women and children also, are engaged in this illegal traffic. Why? Because prohibition won’t work, never lias worked, and never will. It has had its trial, and proved a failure. Why waste money and lower New Zealand’s morality? Vote Continuance. 62.
