Several dairy factories in the Stratford district are changing over from the manufacture of butter to cheese on the first of next month.
“Is that the Agricultnrad Banks Bill?” asked the Leader of the Opposition, when the Prime Minister gave notice in Parliament of his intention to introduce the Rural Credit Associations Bill. —“Yes,” replied Mr Massey. “You have rechristened it,” remarked Mr Wilford. “Yes,” admitted the Prime Minister: “I think this is a more appropriate name than the other.”
An instance of where it was cheaper to consign goods to Wellington by motor instead of by train was given by Cr. M. A. Eliott at the meeting of the Palmerston N. Borough Council last Monday night (says the Times). He stated that the Council sends 200 tons of tallow to Wellington per year and a saving of 20/- a ton was effected by sending it by motor lorry.
“Pussyfoot” .Johnson, when leavng Blenheim for Nelson on his. recent visit, entered the Club Hotel before !) o’clock and purchased two cigars. The local paper featured the fact that Mr Johnson was not above entering licensed premises during prohibited hours. The latter, in a letter to the editor, admits the fact as stated, and demands if he violated the layv that he be prosecuted, or that the accusation contained in the newspaper be withdrawn.
With the object of lessening the depredations of small birds during the fruit season, and the encouragement of the collection of birds eggs, the Poverty Bay Fruitgrowers’
Association, in conjunction with the Farmers’ Union, are inaugurating a competition among thp school children of Poverty Bay (says the Gisborne Times). For the largest collection obtained during the season substantial cash prizes are offered for the eggs of certain birds.
