A Mother’s Opinion

I have just read in your little journal that “Prohibition does not prohibit; it provokes.” That is one reason why I am opposed to it. I want my sons, who are just reaching manhood, to be able to take a drink or to leave ft atone. Prohibition wiM certainly provoke them to aiy-grog dtiTtk-rog There is net so much harm done by drinking aa by over-eating; eo our doctors tell us. Prohibit the drunkard, why not the glutton. ? Ouir public houses are well conducted, and it is not the fault of the licensee if a few do at times drink too much. Two drinks will he too much far and man, and another may perhaps be able to take a dozen. Why, because a few overstep the mark and make “beasts” of themselves, should the “many” suffer P Take the daily glaaa of ale from hundreds of out old folk and you take all they have left to them In the way of luxniry, ** I am opposed to the No-License Party for their unfair tactics. If they happen to catch a person the worse foe drink they are held up to ridicule from their platforms as an awful example of what drink has done. Ipa opposed to their bitterness and their constant spying to catah the liquor party trapping. I am the mother of a large family, but I want to vote for the liberty and what, I am sure, will he the well-being of my family. I cannot see that Prohibition will make this a better world to lave in; there will always be anme. Take intoxicating liquor away and they will certainly indulge in some other vice. There are many worse vices than drinking. . Used in moderation, it is beneficial to everyone. lam not a drinker, only taking it as a medicine, but I shall oppose Prohibition for my family’s sake. I am sure Continuance will benefit ua indirectly in many ways.
