CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
! The monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held, ion Thursday evening. Present: Messrs A. N. Smith (president), Christie, Jno. Ross, Follas, Jae Admore, Hornblow, Whibloy and the secretary (Mr Roore). Correspondence was read and received front Mr W. H. Field, M.P., regretting inability to attend conference re shipping .and expressing interest in the Avelfarc of the port and Avishing the project success. From M. A. Hamilton, ALP., thanking the chamber for invitation to attend conference and submitting sketches of steamers which might he suitable to work the port. From the District Traffic Manager. forwarding lists of standard weights which would he accepted by the Department. —lt was decided 1 to circulate the lists among local business people. ’ The president reported that representations had been made to the railway authorities re delivery of urgent parcels arriving by the evening [rain and that same would be ilelivereil within a reasonable time after the arrival of the train. It was decided to appoint the Palmerston North Chamber’s delegate to the annual conference as proxy for the local chamber and the remits to he dealt with were discussed and the Chamber’s support or otherwise decided oil. The president and Mr Hornblow were thanked for their report Hie recent conference which discussed shipping matters. Mr M. H. Walker’s resignation as a member was received with regret. Accounts were passed for payment and it was decided to approve of a levy in connection with expenses incurred in connection Avith the shipping conference.
