When one oF the small ofliecs at the Colombo road saleyards in Masterton was opened, after being closed for a fortnight, an almost dead starling (states the Age) struggled out into tiie fresh air. The door of tiie Imt was strewn with tile dead bodies of seventeen starlings and a sparrow or two. They had evidently gained admission down the chimney and through a small aperture in the range, and •being unable to find their way ont again, had died of starvation
