TRAFFIC IN OPIUM.
A CHINAMAN FINED. Wellington, Last Night. Last week a seaman named Hemus was convicted at Wellington of smuggling opium . To-day a Chinaman named Joe Lain was convicted of having two tins of opium in' his possession. The police stated that the opium was part of what Hemus smuggled from the Ulimaroa. Accused was fined £4O and costs, and was also fined £lO and costs for being in possession of a firearm, namely a revolver, which the police found fully loaded on a table by his bed.
