COUNTERFEITER BEFORE THE COURT.

Tlios. Nelson Millars was charged at the Police Court that he made a counterfeit coin with intent to make it pass for current silver coin. lie was remanded to October lfitli. The Chief Detective opposed an.application for bail. He said counterfeit coin hud been circulating throughout the Dominion for some months and quite a lot of counterfeit coin was found on the premises where accused was arrested. Accused admitted he had freely circulated counterfeit coin about the city. The charge was made under the section of the Crimes Act. which made the person convicted liable for life imprisonment. Mr Po.vnton, S.M., fixed the hail at £1.000.’
