SLAUGHTERING SYSTEM.

APPLICATION FOR CHANGE. CHRISTCHURCH, Kepi. 29. A sitting of tho Conciliation Council was held to consider the application' by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for am award to deal with the team system of slaughtering. The respondents named were the Canterbury Freezing Works and Kol. ■ai Trades Employees’ Association. The workers were not represented. The Commissioner said that when tho application was received he had some doubt whether the Council had any jurisdiction to deal with it, and had applied to the Arbit ation Court for directions. The Registrar had replied that the proposed system was an c. iirely. new one for New Zealand and the -iroceedings should be for a supplement'my award. Thu dispute should be treated as in any ordinary case. The Commissioner added that respondents, not; having filed counter-proposals or nominated assessors, that application for a supplementary award would be forwarded to the court without any recommendation.
