ROYAL PICTURES.
“Does she dance, does she twist, does she do those little things you can’t resist 1. I’ll say she does!” You would think that old popular air was inspired by the heroine of “The Dangerous Little Demon,” the Universal Special attraction at the Royal on Wednesday. For the “demon” is a most fascinating creature as portrayed by the star, Marie Prevost, and the way she does things causes panic in the hearts of all masculine bystanders. Dancing divinely and somewhat shockingly, she causes even the most blase of her suitors to feel a thrill. In fact, he gets such a kick out of it, he calls her down! WAY DOWiN LAST.
Six months in the Empire Theatre, London, and still showing, is the record of D. W. Griffith’s wonderful melodrama, “Way Down East,” showing at the Royal on Thursday. The master mind of screen drama has poured out with a lavish hand every thrill and every artifice of his genius to make a gorgeous entertainment. The many coloured scenes of the great ballroom spectacle will never be' surpassed, and new and startling lighting effects follow one another in quick succession. Literally hundreds of quaint types adorn the smaller character part of the story, and it is packed with quaint humour and odd surprises. The plot itself is terribly powerful, and treats an age-old theme with freshness and beauty. Lilian Gish, as the little country beauty who enters society to become the victim of a despicable but attractive lady-killer, is appealingly lovely, and acts with sympathy and occasional Hashes of tremendous passion and vivid emotion. Prices of admission will be 2s and Is, plus tax, children halfprice. - -
