PAPER FROM HEMP WASTE PRODUCTS.
At Thursday night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, -Mr Christie said he had been in conversation with Mr Eekhoff, re utilising the waste products from the flaxmills for paper manufacture. He had been informed that Mr Eekhoif had perfected a process for converting- the waste products, of the flaxmills into paper for commercial printing. He thought the matter should be taken up by the Chamber, which should obtain further details from Mr Eekhoff, as he believed the millers would be sympathetic. Mr Hornblow said there was no doubt that the waste products could be used Tor paper manufacture, .felt,'etc., and the vegetation and gum mixed with molasses had been tried and recommended as a calf food.'"’The fibre itself had also been successfully experimented with in the manufacture of textiles. The point was whether the cost of paper production '' could compete with the imported article.
It was., resolved to communicate with Mr Eekhoff and obtain further details, which could then be submitted to the flaxmillers.
