The fleath of Sir Charles Sant ley, the baritone singer, is reported from London by a Press Association cablegram. lie was born in Liverpool on February 28. 1834, and first appeared on the concert platform in London in 1857. Two years later he gained his first great success in the opera “Dinorah” at Covent Garden, and in 1862 made his first appearance in Italian opera. This was followed by a series of successes. He was knighted in 1907.
