BRILLIANT CRESCENTS SEEN.
NEW INSTRUMENT USED. BRISBANE. Sept. 23. The various sections of the observing parties at Stanhope are comparing their data. Mr Gale. the leader of the party, stated that he observed at least 20 brillian crescents scattered along the background of the spectrum. lie recognised hydrogen, sodium, magnesium, calcium and helium by the characteristic bright lines. Father Bigot, of Riverview, says he used a. new instrument procured from Washington for solar ructiation observations, 11 pjramomotor, and got full results of the measurements of the solar sky, the loss of boat and the incoming radiation. —Press Association. A war memorial, costing about £IOOO, is being erected in the grounds of the Auckland Grammar School, in honour of the old boys of the school who fell in the Great War. The money has been raised by contributions from past and present pupils.
