The Boui'd of Aldermen of the City of New York passed the following resolution on February <th last: — Whereas, public opinion, as evidenced in the newspaper reports and expressions of the people in general, tends strongly to a desire for an amendment of the Volstead Law so that there may be restored to the people the right to the use of the nourishing light wines and beers to which they were for years accustomed and which they believe by right they should be permitted; therefore resolved — That the Congress of the United States be. and hereby is petitioned, in the name of the Board of Aldermen of the City of New York, to so amend the all tooprohibitive Volstead Law to the end that the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages may be permitted so that the many who for years found sustenance in light wines and beers may again enjoy that right and privilege. Resolutions of similar import have recently been adopted by the Common Councils or other municipal boards of Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, Boston, and several other cities. The Legislature of Louisiana has also adopted such a resolution. The Chamber of Commerce of Milwaukee and the Grain Trade Association of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and other commercial bodies have placed themselves on record in like terms.
