REPLY’ TO RUMOURS.
IXJNDON, Sept. 14. A statement officially communicated !<> the Morning Post clears up persistently broadcasted rumours (fiat the British Foreign Office provoked the Turks by refusing to receive the emissaries who visited London with the object of .securing recognition of the Turkish cause. The facts, it is declared, are that Yussuf Kernel Bey, the actual Foreign Secretary in the Angora Government, when in London on a peace mission in May last, bail three lengthy interviews with Lord (’iirzon, in which the entire situation was discussed Fethey Bey. when in London more recently, was not refused an audience. The Foreign Secretary, who was then ill, sent a message to Fethey' Bey to go to the Foreign Office and write a statement for communication to the former, which he did. —A. and N.Z. cable. DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW. FRENCH SYMPATHY FOR TURKS. LONDON, Sept. 13. The Daily Telegraph's Paris correspondent says that it. is clear the French Government does not see eye 4o eye with the British regarding the Turks. France pioelaims herself faithful to the principle of the freedom of the Straits, hut France’s sympathy with the legitimate aspirations of the Turks means that, she will make her voice heard in support: of the Turkish claims to Adrianople.—A. and N.Z. cable.
