APPEAL BY A JOCKEY.
(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, Sept,. 15. An appeal by Henry Ernest Goldfinch against the decision of the licensing committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference in not granting his application for a jockey’s license for 1922-23 was heard by Messrs Perrett, Vallance and Goodbchere, the-judgment delivered being as follows: “W-o have carefully considered the appeal by Goldfinch against the refusal of the licensing committee of the Racing Conference to grant his application for a jockey s license for the current racing year and have heard evidence by Goldfinch supjxnting the appeal. We are of the opinion that the action of the licensing committee is in order in this respect. Goldfinch openly admitted to us that he had been in the habit of associating with undesirable persons, and that he had been guilty of a breach of part 22 of rule five of the Rules of Racing, which reads: ‘No jockey shall give information respecting a trial or regaining any horse he may be engaged to ride in any race or work to any person other than' the ownor or trainer of the horse.’ Goldfinch appears not to have realised the seriousness of his action. His private life is clean. In view of this fact, and that he openly admitted his guilt to us, we are of the opinion that he should be given another chance, and have therefore recommended that he be granted a conditional jockey’s license dating from Ist January next.”
