Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, SEPT. 16, 1922. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A local young lady in opening a packet of salts recently noticed a small stone in the packet. She took it to Mr Goldcr who stated that it was a second-grade emerald. It is sumised that it fell into the salts from a ring worn by a packer.

The funeral of the late Mr Charles Spiers took place yesterday afternoon and was attended by a representative number of towns people. The pall-bearers were fellow members of All Saints’ vestry. The Rev. Walton conducted an impressive service at the church and graveside. At the conclusion of the church service Mrs .Jackson, who presided at the organ, played the Dead March in Saul. The Herald staff desire to thank Miss 11. Skellen, a consistent prize-winner in the cookery class til local shows, for samples of her cookery exhibits. The staff endorse all lhe encomiums passed by the .judge upon Miss Skellen’s skill in the culinary art and to use an Americanism are prepared to back her “cookies” against creation!
