The gas manager presented a .satisfactory report to the Council last night on last month’s operations.
Mr l'\ D. Wlnbley, Labour candidate for Manawatu, gave a brief address in the open air in front of the Town Hall on Saturday evening. The local State school re-opened yesterday after the recent fortnight’s vacation. The children experienced glorious weather for their holidays.
Mr Aldridge’s lender for the lease of section 488 at £5 per annum for a term of seven years, was accepted at last night’s Council meeting.
At last night’s Council meeting, the ranger reported that six head of stock had been impounded during last month. It was decided, in adopting the report that in future the ranger should supply a list of offenders to (lie Council monthly.
At last night’s Council meeting Mi M. E. Perreau lodged a claim against the Council for £2 Mis incurred through the Council’s employees taking down a fence and allowing his cattle to stray. The Council deluded to pay claimant £2 2s.
Those present at last night’s Council meeting were His Worship I lie Mayor (John Chrvstall Esq), and Councillors: W'hibley, Bryant, Smith, hand, Ross, Martin, Thompson, and Coley. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Walker. Mr Cliinie, borough engineer, was also in attendance.
The Eoxton Motor and Engineering Co. Ltd. beg to announce that they have installed a complete vulcanising plant and are now in a position to handle tube and tyre repairs of any kind. They can repair or retread that worn tyre to perfection and reduce your tyre bill to a minimum. They have adopted the Edwards system which is the hist in tyre work.
Owing to the inclement weather, there was only a moderate attendance at the Jubilee Bellringers entertainment in the Town Hall last night. The funeral of the late Mr Hugh Kin-ley took place on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony at the home and graveside was conducted by the Rev. Frank McDonald.
Torrential rains fell throughout I his district yesterday afternoon. A storm cloud burst in the Oroua district and the roads presented the appearance of running streams. A letter from the Valuation Department was read at the last meeting of the Manawatu County Council relative to the application of Messrs Stevens, Easton and Austin, owners of the Moutoa Estate, for the revaluation of their property. The parties had appealed, but the Assessment Court had upheld the new values, whereupon the owners served notice under section 31 of the Act requiring the capital value to be reduced to £OO,OOO on the property acquired by the Crown. The Council was advised to take no action at present with regard to the ruling of this property. The Clerk pointed out that in the event of the Crown taking over the property, it would mean a loss in rate revenue of about £045.
