SOCCER.
DAWBERS (4) v. FOXTON (2). The above match was played on the Foxton Race Course on Saturday; before a fair number of spectators. Dawbers’ captain on winning the toss, decided to defend the north goal and Jenvev, for Foxton, set the ball in motion, the play being in midfield for a time and then the Palmerston forward line came down the field in fine style which ended by the Foxton goalie being called upon to save, in which he was unsuccessful. On play being resumed, Foxton forwards tried hard to, equalise but they could not ' get through the Palmerston defence, the same being very solid. Again midfield play followed in which some pretty combination play by the Palmerston team was seen which ended by the Palmerston team beating the Foxton goalie for the second time. Again in play, the Foxton forwards made the pace hot for goal, which" ended by Jenvey opening the score' for Foxton. Resuming ihe play again went to midfield and the Palmerston team netted two more goals hv the time the whistle sounded for half time. Dawbers 4; Foxton 1.
On play being restarted, Fox ton had a good share of the game but the Palmerston defence w T as very sound and Foxton could not make much headway for goal although several good openings went astray through lack of combination. Finally Francis scored another goal for Foxton. Midfield play continued throughout the rest of the game, Foxton ill having a. good share of the game and the Palmerston team frying very hard to score but failing to do so. Palmerston gave a. good exhibition of football, being very pretty to the spectators’ point of view r . . The final scores were Dawbers 4; Foxton 2. A collection taken up on the ground amounted to £1 ss.
