JEWEL ROBBERY GANG.
OPERATIONS IN EUROPE. EXCEPTIONALLY CLEVER GROUP. LONDON, Aug. 31. In connection with the robbery of an American woman’s jewels, there have been several similar robberies recently, though on a smallcd scale, proving that an exceptionally clever group of British and Continental thieves is at work, controlled by a master mind. Considerable sums have been expended in carefully shadowing people with valuables. These clover ones haunt society functions and it is believed the robbery of the American woman was committed'at Calais. The authorities are aware of thee existence of a clover gang, with headquarters at Deuville, which at present is crowded with fashionable people of all nations, where thieves, who arc mostly cultilled and of good personal appearance move in the best society.—A. and N.Z. cable.
