ALLEGATION OF BRIBERY.
CASE HEARD IN BRISBANE. BRISBANE, Aug. 23. In giving evidence in the case against Sleunian and Connolly. two journalists accused of attempted bribery, .Mr Brennan said that in the first interview Connolly (old him that tho Labour Party was gone, and that eighteen Labour members were going over with Mr Theodore and live members of the Country l’arlv were to join him in tho new party. With a party of twenty-three, members, Mr Theodore could get a dissolution, go to the country and sweep the polls with the new party. They had a member of the Labour Party who” was willing to go over for £2OOO. Mr Brennan said this was not enough and asked him if he could get £3500. to which Connolly agreed. Continuing, Mr Brennan said the two accused went to his house, witness having previously had a hole bored in the floor of the room and a hole cut in (he wall, with two detectives and a shorthand writer in hiding. He arranged to meet the accused at an hotel the next day when they told him they had £3200 with them. Witness then had them arrested—Press Association.
