It will given out some time ago that Mr C. J. Ilarkness, of Weraroa was considering a request to allow his nomination to go forward as a candidate in the Government interest for Manawatu. According to •Saturday's Levin Chronicle, Mr ilarkness has informed our contemporary that lie would be u delinite candidate for the Otaki seat at the coming general election. Mr Ilarkness said he had strong representations made to him from both the Manawatu and Otaki electorates asking him to go to the ballot. These came from all section* of party polities. After mature consideration lie had definitely decided to ac-i-ede to the requests made in respect to Otaki. Mr Ilarkness'.-. public activities as a member of the ’Wellington F.ducation Board, a director ~f the Kuku Dairy Company, and a member of the Horowhenna County Council, have for a period of years brought him before the residents of this coast. In addition to his extensive local body experience, he has had a. thorough commercial grounding as a hank officer over a period of 12 years, being stationed during that time in Wellington, Ilnwera and Pahiutua, in the latter place four and a-balf years as accountant.
