FOXTON’S WITHDRAWAL FROM REP. MATCHES. -At the meeting of the Horowhenua Rbgby Union at Levin on Tuesday, Mr W. Bevan brought up the matter of players selected for representative matches not fulfilling their engagements. He mentioned the case of the Foxton players, H. Robinson, M. Robinson, Reid and Baker, who were chosen to play in the match against Wanganui and the same players were selected for the Pakeha-Maori match previous to that, and failed to put in an appearance. That conduct was not fair to the selectors or the Union, and the player’s concerned should lie asked for an explanation. The secretary stated that he rang up the secretary of the Foxton Club and asked him to notify the Foxton men that they had been selected for (lie Wahganui rep. match, but the Foxton secretary said the Foxton men refused to play. The chairman (Mr W. Thomson) said the position could hardiy rest there, and should he cleared up. It was resolved on Mr Be van’s million, that the secretary of the Foxton Club be written lo and asked for an explanation as to why the Foxton men refused to play in the representative match against Wanganui after being selected] also of the same conduct in the MaoriPakeha match. Mr Bevan also referred to the rep. selectors. Three had been appointed but. after the recent trouble with Foxton, Mr Desmond, of Foxton, had refused to act further.. As the third selector, Mr Wehipeihana, was not available lately, be (Mr Bevan) had to select' the rep. teams himself. The chairman considered Mr Desmond should explain himself, and moved that he be asked why he refused to carry out the duties of selector without Notifying the Management Committee of the Union. The motion was supported by Mr R. W. Percy, and earned.
