GAMES ON SUNDAYS.
CHANGED SCENES IN LONDON. SIMILAR TcTsAT UR DAYS. LONDON, Aug. 19. The County Council’s decision permitting games on Sunday afternoons lias produced a striking social change on most Sundays since the decision, unless it has been wet or threatening. On fine days, games are going in full swing, from 2 o’clock till 9. Over 500 tennis courts and scores of bowling greens are continuously occupied, while thousands of boys and youths play cricket. The scenes are entirely changed from when the parks were solely populated with promenaders, open-air orators and preachers. Sundays are now indistinguishable from Saturdays. Church people continue vigorous protests in the newspapers andare planning elaborate campaigns in the provincial towns and cities, none of which has yet followed, London’s example. A feature of London life is the popularity of whist drives. To-night 18,000 players will compete at Olympia. Kensington. in a drive organised by , the Daily Sketch for 200 prizes, the winner receiving £SOO.—A. and N.Z. cable.
