INCIDENT ON A STATION.
TWO MEN INJURED. GISBORNE, Aug. 20. As the result of stabbing injuries two men were admitted to Cook Hospital on Saturday. The affair happened at Matawhero, where George Monkhouse, aged 68 years, and a single man, was living witli William Campbell, about 40 years of age, and married. Campbell is manager of Mr F. Hall’s station, and Monkhouse was staying with him till he got a job. About 9 o’clock on Saturday niglit, Monldiousc returned home and after muttering for some time, allegedly sprang at Campbell and stabbed the latter three times in the back. It is alleged that he then turned the knife, which had a blade 2sin long, into his own abdomen. Campbell’s wife went to her husband’s aid, and one child rushed outside, screaming. A Chinese employee secured Monkhouse and sent for the police. The injured men passed a satisfactory night.
