WORKERS’ CONFERENCE.

REDUCTION IN WAGES. LONDON, Aug. 17. Mr J. R. Clynes, in his presidential address at the annual conference of the General Workers’ Federation at Learnington, forecasted that the employers’ inconsiderate use of their power in enforcing wage reductions would rouse the desire for retaliation. The wage increase was gradual during the war, but the sudden reductions in the case of six millions workers now amounted to about ten millions weekly. The conference' passed a resolution, calling on the Government to restrain employers from unfairly depressing wages.—A. and N.Z. cable.
