SUPREME COURT

PALMERSTON SESSIONS. DISTRICT’S FREEDOM FROM CRIME. The Palmerston North sessions of the Supreme Court opened on Tuesday, His Honour Mr .Justice Reed presiding. Only three criminal eases were set down on the calendar. Tu his charge to the Grand Jury, His Honour said he was pleased to be able to again congratulate the district upon its comparative freedom from crime. Of the three cases which would come under their consideration mme involved crimes of violence or offences of a sexual nature. His Honour then went on to briefly review the circumstances of the two theft cases, and alluding to the third, that of manslaughter, he said it was one of a class which unfortunately was becoming all too common in the Dominion. True bills were returned in all cases—John Graham, alleged theft (three charges); Shirley Leckie, alleged theft, and Hugh Wilson McIntosh (alleged manslaughter).
