PRAISE FOR POLICE FORCE
High praise was given by Mr T. M. Wilford, Leader of the Opposition, in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, to the character of the police force of New Zealand. Mr Wilford could speak both as a former Minister in charge of the force and also from thirty years experti nec in the Courts. Ho had always been against the police in the Courts; but he had always found .them fair fighters. It was a great tribute to the police force that the evidence of the police was accepted hv Judges and Magstrates as it was. Mr Wilford referred eulngistieallv to ex-Commissioner O’Donovan, whom he laid known from tlie time when lie was a con-stable.-and had always known him as a man whose*fairness, impartiality, and good judgment were not questioned. The Minister of Justice (the Hon. E. P. Lee) said the praise was well deserved. Great care was exercised in the selection of the 7>olice force
