ASSOCIATION.
The first association match held in Foxton took place on the Racecourse yesterday afternoon, between members of he newly-formed club and Rugby players. The game was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams, although the rules were relaxed to some extent. The Rugby playrs were in good form and it required great control to keep from handling the hall. They made the game very fast —in fact too much sc for some of the old soccer enthusiasts who indulged in the game to give it a start. Jack McColl did some clever and sure footing. .Jenvey was probably the best exponent of the game and his heading of a goal from a corner kick was splendid. The teams gave a fairly good exhibition of the game and some of the Rugby players would shine as conspicuously on the soccer field as at rugby. The game ended in a draw. Mr Barr officated as referee. The players celebrated the first match at. a dinner at Perreau’s in the evening. A return match is to be played next Wednesday when a
much-improved game is anticipated. Those who participated in the game are enthusiastic and there is every indication that soccer will be firmly established in Foxton next season.
