GETTING ON THE ROLL.
‘‘The gross carelessness exhibited by a number of electors iu filling in claims for enrolment forms is simply wonderful,” an electoral officer remarked to the Otago Times reporter, in referring to the present purging of the rolls and enrolling electors. This does not apply to the city where Post Office officials are doing the enrolling. In the country districts eligible electors are required to personally fill in the claim for enrolment form. A considerable number of these forms, are returned without signature. Some electors append signatures using initials, and neglect to All in their names in full at the top of the forms. The full Christian name and surname are required for enrolment purposes. Others again fill in their names, and append signatures, but neglect to get their signatures witnessed. Of course all these claims are informal. The kind of male elector who fills in his occupation on the line provided on the form to describe female electors as “married, single, or widow” and describes himself thereuii as “no occupation” is not unknown. Female electors often admit to state whether they are married, single, or widows, and thus hamper the work of enrolment. All these mistakes, and quite a number of others, can be easily avoided if the printed instructions on the claim fo printed instructions on the claim for enrolment forms be read and complied with.
