AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.

ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING.

A very enthusiastic and largely attended meeting was held in the Town Hall supper-rooms on Thurs-, day night. The Mayor (Mr John Ghrystall) occupied the chair. Some of the executive of the Manawatu Club (Palmerston North) attended the meeting at which over 40 were present. All present signified their intention of joining and such a large membership at the beginning is indeed encouraging, particularly so when it is remembered that no amateur club has hitherto existed in Foxton, which was a stronghold of professionalism. Mr Turnbull addressed the meeting and said that by running as amateurs they were fostering clean, healthy sport. He was certain that the club would have a very successful season if all the members held together and worked. Mr Watt was sure that with such a large membership, the club's future prospects were particularly rosy, especially as it had the support of the whole district. Several questions were answered by the Manawatu members.

At a previous meeting it was decided to elect nine committeemen, five of which were then elected, the remaining four were elected as follows Messrs Roore, Follns, McDonald and Stevenson. The following officers were elect ed : —Patron, J. Chrvstnll; Presi dent, J. K. Hornblow; Vice-presi-dents, L. Procter, Rev. Walton, F. Robinson, W. Jewell, D. Christie, M. Perreau, R. Bryant, J. Barr, Dr. Wyllie, Poole, D. W. Robertson arid W. Bullard.

The subscription (was fixed as follows Members 5/-; junior members (under 18 years), 2/6; honorary members 5/-.

Mr Hornblow generously donated a trophy to the value of £5. At the conclusion of the meeting a vote of thanks was passed to the Palmerston North members for their advice and attendance.
