ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FELL FROM SUMNER CLIFFS. Christchurch, Last Night. The body found in the sea near Taylor’s Mistake, Sumner, has been identfied as that of Miss Kate Lane, aged 57 years, who had been missing from, her home in Armagh St., Christchurch since Tuesday. It is presumed she fell down the cliffs. SUICIDE BY HANGING. Rotorua, Last Night. At the inquest on Hugh Head, who was found hanging at Ngongotalia, a verdict that deceased had hanged himself while of unsound mind was returned. He was worried over an allegation concerning the parentage of an illegitimate child. " BODY FOUND IN WAIROA RIVER. Wniroa, Last Night. The decomposed body of a man was found in the Wairoa River by two boys this afternoon and identified as that of a returned soldier, Francis Croker Stewart, formerly a porter at the Wairoa Hotel, who had been missing since the end of last month. An inquest wilt be held to-morrow. DEAD—GAS WAS TURNED ON. Dunedin, Last Night. Thomas Clarke, aged 40 years, a married man living alone, was found .dead at his home this morning with the gas turned on. The circumstances point !•> suicide. TWO INVERCARGILL , TRAGEDIES., Invercargill, July 24. -Human remain> found in the estuary have been identified as those of William Henry Fox. single, aged 47. who has been missing for five weeks.
At the inquest concerning the death of Denny Tobin, farmer, of Morton Mains, who was found dead in the rose gardens, the evidence showed that lie had been in 11-heal-th. He had purchased poison from ;i chemist, stating that he required it to poison rats. A verdict was returned that deceased died from the effects of poison, l self-administered whilst in a state of great depression. He leaves a widow and six children.
