THE MANAWATU SEAT.
MR EDWARD NEWMAN RETIRES. MR J. LINKLATER SELECTED AS SUCCESSOR IN REFORM INTERESTS. For some time past Mr Ed. Newman’s health has not been staisfactory and his medical advisers have w'arned’ hint to take a complete rest from public activities. He took the earliest possible opportunity of conferring with his supporters ( and laid tl/e facts before them. A meeting for this purpose was held at Foxton last Monday and representatives’ were present from all parts of the Manawatu electorate. A motion of appreciation of Mr Newman’s faithful services was passed and regret expressed at. his retirement. . Mx J. Linklater, chairman of the Kairanga County Council and chairman of the Foxton Harbour Board was nominated as Mr Nesmith’s successor and his nomination unanimously approved. Mr Gordon Elliot was unanimously elected chairman of the Electoral executive committee. Elsewhere in this issue Mr Joseph Linklater’s official announcement is made. .
