THE SALARIES CUT.
HOW OFFICERS ARE AFFECTED. Wellington, July 13. During the course" of the debate 01. the A ddress -in - R eplv a good deal was made of the point that the salary cut was uniform over all salaries between £l9O and £BOO. The Premier in his speech to-night read the following table showing exactly how the cut worked out, particularly stressing the fact that those whose salaries were over £3OO paid income tax as well as suffering a reduction through the cut. The reductions work out as follows: Up to £l9O, Ist and 2nd cuts, £ls- - to £320, £25; £321 to £soo' £3O, income tax £11; £5Ol to £Boo| £35, income tax £36; £9OO, in one deduction £63, income tax £45£I,OOO, £BO, income tax £56; £1,250,' £ll3, income tax £B6. An officer over £BOO was reduced in full a t one stroke, whereas the reductions for those of £BOO and below was provided for in three stages, two of which have been made. Even if the third cut was made, an employee at £l9O was. exempt therefrom and he would be reduced no further, but the £BOO a year man may lose another £lO, thus £45 in all as compared with £ls in all for the £l9O employee.
