Sensational evidence was given by a hospital matron at the inquest on Clara Octavia Brown, 22, wife of David Brown, of Oswaldkirk, who died in hospital. Deceased was confined in January, and on March 16, on returning home, her husband found her with her nightdress in flames. Miss M. E. Brown, matron of the hospital, stated that deceased was admitted on March 16 suffering from severe burns. On April 4 she asked Avitness if she was likely to die, and Avas told that the chances were that she Avould. Deceased then burst into tears, and admitted that she had done it herself, adding that she placed some methylated spirits in her mouth and set fire to it with a match. The ijury returned a verdict of “Suicide Avhile temporarily insane.”
