LIFETIME IN BED.
ANGRY WOMAN’S VOW
In a fit of anger Mrs Alexander Wickham, of Tipton, lowa, went to bed thirty-eight years ago, declaring that she would never again get up. To-day she finds herself paralysed from her waist down and has to remain in bed, not from choice, but from necessity. She was a young woman when she went to bed but to-day she is old and whitehaired. -She is rich, but the only advantage her wealth is that she can employ a woman to look after her few wants. Trouble Mrs Wickham and her father-in-law l ec ] to her vow. Orte morning when she was cutting bacon for breakfast old Mr Wickham made a remark which she resented. “I'm going to bed, and I’m never going to get up again,” she told her husband. Her husband at first humoured what he thought was an angry whim, and took her meals to her. Two years ago the husband died. Mrs Wickham had to be carried to the funeral. Her legs were shrivelled and shrunken past use.
