SLANDERING THEIR OWN COUNTRY.
THE RED LABOURITES DISLOYALTY. 'V-'
WHERE XJIE HOLLAND PARTY
STANDS
In a recent article we questioned the loyalty of the Holland Party, misnamed the “N.Z. Labour Party.” As if to prove how correct we were the “Maoriland Worker” of the 14th inst., has a leader headed “The next war” in which it indulges in this base slander of Great Britain :
“The two nations in Europe who have piled armament on armament snce the “peace” are France and Britain. For what? To humiliate, insult, starve, attack, rob, and prepare further attacks on Germany and Russia. These facts are notorious. Yet when the tormented turn on their tormentors it is the former and not the latter who are saddled with the guilt! Heaven preserve us from hypocritical and self righteous Patriots.”
Now that statement is a gross lie and the paper which publishes it is a notorious perverter of the truth. Heaven had need 1 to defend it from its own foul spirit, and the country from the shameless hypocricv of a party that talks moderation on the Hustings and supports publication of surli slanderous anti-patriot : c lies. It- is well known that Franco and Britain have since peace w.-: - declared reduced armaments, am! both their Naval and Military strength. Here is a late message relating to France:— The French Ambassador, M. Jusserand, stated in a speech that the period of compulsory military service in France would soon be reduced to one year instead of three as before the war, and that next year the army would be reduced to 030,000 men.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable As.
BRITAIN’S REDUCTION IN ARMS. .
The First Lord of the Admiralty has recently issued a White Paper (Cmd. 1,603) which states: — “As a result of the Washington Conference and concurrent administrative economics, the effective iiaval vote for 1922-23 have been reduced by nearly 21 millions net (£20,791,000) as compared with 1921-22.”
The “cuts” recommended in the Fighting Seiwices of Great Britain by the Geddes Committee were: — Navy £21,000,000; Army £20,000,000; Air £5,500,000, or a total of £46,500,000.
■ As between 1914-15 and 1922 the effective votes for the Navy have been reduced 50 per cent, and there has also been large reductions in respect to the Army. With respect to our own little Dominion we find Defence being cut down to the minimum. TROTSKY’S MAILED FIST. We find this lying sheet representing the Red Revolutionists of Russia as a ’ lot of ardent pence lovers who only think of war when it is forced upon them. Here is the true position. On the 2nd of February of this year Trotsky delivered a harangue in Moscow in connection with a festival at the formation of a new Red Tank Brigade. “If,” he said, “the Western Europe bougeoisie should ask on what foundation the Soviet Republic rested the answer would be “come and sec this festival.”
He proceeded:—“Peace now prevails, but we know quite well that the present peace will not last long, that there can be no peace before the whole world belongs to the Red workmen and peasants.” If we are compelled to have resource to arms we shall call up the 1922 class and we shall be better prepared than ever before to beat off all attacks. Roumania, Poland and the rest which will attempt to fall on us at the bidding of the Entente will meet the Red Army’s mailed fist, and then there will be no question of peace negotiations until peasants and workmen are in full possession of power in Poland, Roumania and Finland.”
That was just prior In the meeting of the Genoa Conference held to fry and get a little nearer world peace, and here is your poor innocent Russia threatening other nations, shaking the mailed fist and playing the bully to the fullest.
WHO IS BEHIND THIS? journal quoted is nothing. Who is behind it ? The socalled “N.Z. Labour Party” supports .if. True, the party’s • candidates never mention if to the electors. The Red Labourites are not proud of the open slander it indulges in but they keep it to the dirty work whilst they go around professing ‘to be all for constitutionalism. Tt is such hypo-' cricf that is disgusting to thinking people. (Contributed by the N.Z. Welfare League.)
