GOLD DISCOVERY.
IX TAUMARUNUI DISTRICT.
Taumarunui, Tuesday. The Taumarunui gold prospectors showed the “Press-” specimens of quartz which they claim as highly productive of gold, silver and lead. One prospector had just returned from the School of Mines at Thames, where the stone lias been tested with satisfactory results. An assay proved it good payable rock, including three metals. He stated that the prospectors were giving no information as to the locality ex- > eept that it Was near Taumarunui and easily accessible. Questioned as to how they made the find the prospectors stated that gold, in small quantities, had been found here for thirty years back by Maoris, surveyors and prospector’s. Specimens had been found in the creeks and the prospectors concluded that there must be a reef at hand. They spent weeks at intervals in the bush and on the hills, and made the discovery of a definite reef on May 6th. f
