Mrs Josephine Adamo, a married woman thirty-three years old, with six children and a husband out oi' work attempted suicide by jumping into the river. She fell on - a big cake of ice. Half a mile away men on a tugboat saw her leap and the boat -plunged through the ice to the rescue. Just as it approached the woman slid from the ice cake into the river. One of the corners of her dress had frozen to the ice and held fast, although her body was submerged. She was taken to the boiler room, revived and then rushed to the hospital. Despite her injuries, it was said she would recover.
