DEFENCE TRAINING
PARADES FOR THIS YEAR
A General Headqquartors instruction states: —- 1. In accordance with proposals put forward and submitted tp Cabinet at the conclusion of the recent conference of the G.O.C. and Q.’s.C. Commands, it has been decided that, during the ensuing military year 1922-23, paragraphs 247 and 249 of the New Zealand Regulations, 1913, will be provisionally suspended, and the following obligatory training performed by all ranks of the New Zealand Territorial Forces and Senior Cadets: — (a) Twenty drills, oa<4> of l- 1 : hours’ duration. (b) Twelve half-day parades, each of 3 hours’ duration (including musketry course). 2. Where the co-operation of the trainees and their employers can be secured, the above training may be carried out as follows, provided no expense to the public is incurred, viz. : For Cities, Larger Centres, and Technical units, etc. : (a) Eight drills, each of la horn's’ duration. (b) Three half-day parades, each of 3 hours’ duration. (e) Six days’ continuous training (an average of 7 hours’ work per day to be performed). For Country and Outlying Centres: — Seven days’ continuous training (an average of 7 hours’ work per day to be performed). 3. It. is recognised that local conditions will vary, and the above alternate schemes have been drawn up to suit the respective requirements of the city and country units as far as can lie foreseen at present, but O.’s.C. Commands are empowered to make the best possible arrangements to ensure that this minimum training is obtained.
