MASONIC SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.
There was a large attendance of local Masons and their friends including Palmerston representatives, at the Masonic Hall last night, to participate in a farewell social to Bro. Rev. llalliday. A most enjoyable social time was spent. Dancing was interspersed with vocal and elocutionary items. At a suitabe junction the guest was invited oil the stage and Bro. J. Ale Coll SAN . on behalf or the lodge, presented him with a handsome chaplain’s jewel suitably inscribed. In making the presentation Bro. MeColl referred to the loss the lodge would sustain in the departure of the guest and wished him success in his new sphere of labour. Airs MeColl was then called upon to pin the jewel upon the reeeipient’s coat, which was signalised by an outburst of applause and the singing of' “For He's a Jolly Good Fellow” and e heel's. Wor. Bro. Horn blow D.C., also spoke and further cheers were given for Mrs Halliday. Bro. Hallidtiy spoke appreciatively of the honour conferred upon him by the lodge and said he would treasure it a> a memento of the happy times spent among the Foxton bi’ethren. Reference was also made to the departure of Bro. King, who had been appointed Engineer to the Patea County Council and good wishes extended to him. During the evening items were contributed by Mrs Austin, Miss Wyatt. Messrs Alanstield, Tichener and Head. The music'was supplied by Mr East and an extra by Miss Stevenson. A tasty supper wa.- provided by the ladies. Bros. MoCoM, Hornblow and Barber officiated as M.s C.
