■ “The Society has had a busy year and owing to the liberal assistance given by sympathisers has been able to give considerable aid in the way of clothing, boots, food etc. The assistance given, for this year more than doubles that of previous'years. In July 1921, Rev. Walton suggested' that the ministers, of the local churches, together with two representatives of the Dorcas Society should form an advisory committee,' to further the objects' ofHhe’Doreas Soe-' iety, and also to supply thd Society with funds. This proposal was carried out, the committee consisting of Mesdames F. Robinson, R. MeMurray, Revs. Walton, Mlnifie, Halliday, Father Forestal and Cap*. Tong. This committee has been of considerable help to the Society in many ways. They keep, in touch with any family which is receiving assistance and report on needy cases which they may come in touch with._jY.concert was arranged for. by the. above committee, which netted £l9 12s 6d. Thanks is due to I all those‘who so kindly assisted, and especially to the Levin Male Choir, whose items were much appreciated. A Shop Day was held for the puruose of purchasing necessary materials, the result being £lB 15s 9d.We are indebted to the Anglican Ladies’ Guild in allowing us the free .use of their room and sewing machine, thus relieving us of the necessity of buying a machine. During the year a complete maternity lending bag has been furnished, most of the sewing haying been done by the committee members in their own homes. The cost of maternity being £lO, this outfit can be obtained on application to the hon. secretary, the charge being 2s fid for one month’s use. The Society wish to thank the Press, Mr Howan for goods supplied, the public for thengenerous supply of ‘left off’ clothing, the local drapers for generous discounts, and especially Mr A. N. Smith, who allows the Society to use his shop as their distributing centre.' Sixteen families were assisted during the year, and over 400 garments and boots were distributed. We have already several calls for clothing and hoots, and would he pleased to receive parcels of same, which may be left at A. N. Smith’s shop, in Main StreetiH* .
